Copmputer Science

Computer Systems and Science is ideal for student who heading into the field of business, math, science or engineering, with a focus on learning programming concepts.

Our grade 10 programming course introduces students to areas of computer science with a focus on App Development, using a drag and drop environment.

In grade 11 the students learn more programming concepts in a more structured language, as well as learn about the Software Development Cycle in a project that partners them with a junior class from Berrigan E.S. to create an educational mobile app. The elementary clients provide the inspiration, content, and visual design for the grade 11 students’ app development.

In grade 12, students will learn syntax and structures and using an OOP language. As students move into the grade 12 course the focus is on more advanced programming skills as well as project management of real-life team applications.

Students will develop knowledge and skills in; electronics, rebotics, prgramming, networks and will build systems that use computer programs and interfaces to control and/or respond to external devices.

Hospitality and Tourism (Cooking)

Courses in this area of study focus on teaching students about food, where it comes from, how to cook and appreciate it.  We offer a wide range of courses from beginner (Gr.9 Introduction to Cooking) through to Gr. 12 where we have a Cooking Course and Restaurant Management Course.  Through the courses students will learn about proper safe food handling and kitchen safety so that may cook confidently and safely, not only in class but at home.  A wide range of topics is covered each year, yet builds on the previous year's experiences, to challenge and inspire the students to cook more food from scratch.  Field trips, catering events, running "Souper Friday" and participating in cooking labs are combined with the theory and "why" of cooking to give a well rounded experience to all types of learners, especially those whose like working with their hands.

Tech Design

Tech Design integrates many different areas of technology and design to provide students with the background that they will need when going into a career in architecture, industrial design, landscape design, engineering or the world of work.  These mixed courses can be used as prerequisites for university or college with students taking Grade 12 Tech Design entering programs in Industrial Desgin, Architecture and Engineering at University and Trades, Engineering Technologist and Architecture Technologist in College among others.

This area of technology promotes the use of creativity and design while solving problems in a project based environment.  Grade 9 provides the foundation for the the following years of design.  Grade 10 builds on the design concepts learned with an increase in project complexity.  Grade 11 explores design alternatives with projects increasing in complexity.  Grade 12 provides the students with opportunities to explore different types of sketching, use of different materials and different tools used for design that will provide them with a good foundation for entering into University or College.  Students will explore different ways to graphically represent design ideas including sketching, drafting, drawing and computer assisted design. Courses can be taken at any time with no prerequisite requirement.

Photography

This course examines communications technology from a media perspective with emphasis on digital imaging and photography. Students will become familiar with the fundamentals of digital photography while studying recognized photographers and photographic images, photographic genres and photography-related careers.
